Patna: Bihar Education Department has changed the timings of the schools in the state for both primary and middle and higher secondary classes in view of the ongoing heat wave. The Secondary Education Directorate has decided to set new school timings for all government schools until June 30, 2026 with a new order.
The new time will be from 6:30 am to 12:30 pm. The department also instructed schools to follow these hours to the greatest extent to minimize the impact of the summer heat on students.
The schools will be open from 6:30 am till June 30, 2026 with prayer and assembly from 6:30 am to 7 am. Morning classes, lunch for primary and middle school will be from 9 am to 9:40 am. Last class/session will conclude by 12:20 pm. 12:20 to 12:30 pm has been kept for review of classroom activities and planning for the next day.
Schools will officially close at 12:30 pm due to the heatwave order.
The Bihar Education Department said that the change was needed because of the severe heatwave across the state. Kids were struggling with extreme temperatures during normal school hours. The new morning schedule is meant to protect students’ health and well-being. Schools are now operating in the morning only and this will remain until June 30, 2026. The department has made clear that there are no exceptions or changes to the revised timings, and they are to be adhered to in all schools.
