Bail Verdict Pending for Tej Pratap Yadav; Court Reserves Order in Attempt-to-Murder Case

Police say that during the protest, law and order were affected in Gandhi Maidan police station area and many policemen were injured.

Bihar: Former Bihar minister and Janashakti Janata Dal chief Tej Pratap Yadav has not got relief from jail at present. His regular bail application was heard in Patna court on Monday. After the arguments from both sides were completed, the court did not give any decision immediately. The judge has reserved the decision. Now the next hearing of this case will be on August 1. Till then Tej Pratap will remain in Beur jail.

What happened in the court?

The bail plea of Tej Pratap and other accused was heard together in Patna court. After the debate was over, the court asked the police for some important documents related to the case. After that the order will come on the bail.

What allegations did the police make?

Police say that during the protest, law and order had deteriorated in the Gandhi Maidan police station area. Many policemen were also injured. In the FIR, serious sections like obstructing government work, violence, assault on police and attempt to murder have been imposed on Tej Pratap and others.

What did the defence say?

Tej Pratap's lawyer said in the court that this entire matter is a political conspiracy. His client has been implicated unnecessarily. The lawyer argued that Tej Pratap is innocent and he should get regular bail.

What argument was given by the government?

The government lawyer opposed the bail. It was said in the court that the matter is serious and the investigation is still going on. Citing the charges and investigation, the prosecution said that bail should not be granted yet.

Why was the arrest made?

Tej Pratap was arrested after the violence during the Bihar Bandh a few days ago. This bandh was done in protest against the irregularities in the examination. Police allege that he had a role in stopping government work and violence. Currently he is in judicial custody in Beur Central Jail.

What will happen next?

The court will now hear the matter again on August 1. The decision on the bail petition is expected on the same day. Till then Tej Pratap will have to remain in jail.
