Patna: Samrat Choudhary, who has become Chief Minister of Bihar, neither has a political background in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) nor did he begin his political career with the BJP. But after joining BJP in 2017, he set the record for becoming the youngest minister to now leading the Bihar, his political career has steadily risen.
Samrat Choudhary joined active politics in the early 1990s due to family political background. He then quickly established himself as a young leader in the political landscape of Bihar.
He began his career with the Rashtriya Janata Dal and became a minister in Rabri Devi's government in 1999, however, later he moved to JD (U) then joined BJP in 2017. In a way, Samrat Chaudhary's electoral and political journey has been tumultuous, with his involvement with various parties.
While in the RJD and JD (U), he became an MLA and a minister, but achieved political success within the BJP. His rapid rise has surpassed many BJP leaders
Samrat Choudhary's earlier name was Rakesh Kumar, but now he has become Samrat. He inherited politics from his father Shakuni Choudhary. Shakuni Choudhary was an OBC face in Bihar politics.
Becoming the youngest minister in the Rabri Devi government sparked a political controversy. The opposition claimed Samrat was not 25 years old. He had to resign due to his age. However, the controversy made Samrat famous overnight in Bihar and a well-known figure among the youth. He was appointed as the Chief Whip of the opposition for the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 2010
Samrat Chaudhary, along with four RJD MLAs, left the party and joined the JD (U). After the JDU's alliance with the BJP broke down in 2014, the Nitish Kumar government was in a minority, and Samrat played a key role in it.
When Nitish Kumar became Chief Minister again after Jitan Ram Manjhi's departure, Samrat Choudhary was unable to secure a cabinet position. Lack of significant political attention within the JD (U) led to his disillusionment with Nitish Kumar, leading him to leave the JD (U). He then joined the BJP and never looked back.
