New Delhi: The fee refund process for NEET UG 2026 commenced on Thursday. When the cancellation of the NEET 2026 examination was announced, it was also stated that students would not be required to pay any additional fee for the re-examination. The registration fee paid for the examination originally scheduled for May 3 will be refunded, and the NTA will conduct the new examination at its own expense.

Providing relief to NEET UG 2026 aspirants, the NTA has clarified that the fee amount paid by all candidates will be refunded. The agency has informed that candidates will be provided with the option to update their bank account details to receive the refund, starting today, May 21. The window for updating bank accounts will be activated and go live today.

Why was the facility to update bank accounts provided?

According to the NTA, this facility is being provided because a large number of candidates had filled out their application forms through cyber cafes and Common Service Centers (CSCs). In such cases, by default, the refund would have been sent to the same bank account from which the application fee was originally paid. The agency has stated that if a candidate wishes to receive the refund amount in a different bank account, they will be given the opportunity to update their bank account details. This will make it easier for students to receive the refund in the correct account as per their convenience. Candidates have been advised to keep an eye on the official notices.

What about NTA portal?

Today, the NTA will open a window (portal) where students can enter their own—or updated—bank account details, ensuring that the money is credited directly to their personal accounts rather than to an individual associated with a cyber cafe. The NTA has permitted candidates to change their preferred examination city in the event of a change in their place of residence or current address. The link to update the examination city/center on the official website will remain active until 11:50 PM on May 21, 2026.

The agency has also informed candidates that the examination center allotted for the re-examination may differ from the previously allotted center, as the allocation will depend on the updated city preference and the availability of centers.

Students should keep a close watch on the official NTA website for two specific updates:

- The activation link for the refund portal.

- A separate official notification is expected, which may outline how refunds will be processed for various registration statuses.
