New Delhi: To ensure the country's largest medical entrance exam, NEET (UG) 2026, is completely foolproof and secure, the government has implemented its most stringent security measures yet. Following the paper leak controversy in May, the Ministry of Education and the National Testing Agency (NTA) have overhauled the exam's security framework.
According to reports, the experts have been placed under strict isolation protocols. This lockdown will remain in place until the exams conclude on June 21.
This time, taking no chances, all experts responsible for preparing, reviewing, and translating the NEET UG re-test question papers have been relocated to a secret location.
For the paper setters, this is nothing short of a lockdown. They are denied internet and mobile access. This "lockdown" is so strict that the NEET UG paper-setting experts and translators have been completely cut off from the outside world. All those involved in paper-setting will remain in this strict isolation until the exam concludes on June 21, minimising the possibility of information leakage.
To ensure the smooth conduct of NEET UG, a security system has been developed that has been unseen in recent years. Staff or experts involved in the confidential stages are not permitted to use digital devices such as mobile phones, laptops, or smartwatches. Their access to the internet is restricted, and they cannot communicate with outsiders. Everyone entering and leaving this secret facility is monitored, and only the most essential authorized personnel are granted entry.
The Ministry of Education has developed a "multi-tier security framework." Under this, every step from question paper creation to printing, packaging, storage, transportation, and distribution to test centers has been divided into separate compartments. This will ensure that no single individual or group will have complete knowledge of the entire process. Furthermore, the use of Indian Air Force aircraft has also been considered to ensure the secure delivery of the question paper to every corner of the country.
This entire exercise is being undertaken for the NEET UG re-test scheduled for June 21. The exam will be conducted in pen-and-paper (offline) mode from 2 pm to 5:15 pm. Test centers have been set up in 551 cities across India and 14 cities abroad. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has directly instructed officials to completely address any shortcomings or weaknesses from the previous exam.
To prevent any disruption in the digital domain, officials are monitoring social media platforms, messaging apps, and online forums 24/7. The goal is to quickly detect the sale of fake question papers, rumors, and any suspicious activity, ensuring candidates can take the exam in a fair environment without any mental stress. Furthermore, the National Testing Agency is also providing updates via social media platforms.
