Mumbai: Legendary singer Asha Bhosle passed away on Sunday at Breach Candy Hospital in South Mumbai. The veteran singer leaves behind a lasting legacy. It feels as if an entire era of music has fallen silent with her. The voice that for decades gave words to every emotion, be it love, pain, mischief, or celebration, has ceased forever today. 

Asha Bhosle's voice, which has graced countless Hindi cinema songs, was not just a singing voice, but the heartbeat of millions of hearts.

Akshay Kumar shared a throwback picture with Asha and wrote that, “No words can convey the loss I feel at Asha Bhosle ji’s demise. Unki surily awaaz hamesha hamesha ke liye amar rahegi. Om Shanti.”

Johnny Lever's daughter, comedian Jamie Lever, who is known for her imitation of Asha Bhosle, also expressed her grief.

In a post on Instagram, she wrote, “ She wrote in a social media post, "My heart aches as I write this. I’ve always been an admirer of her artistry, and for much of my journey, I found myself inspired by her voice and style, I was so fascinated by her singing that I just naturally started mimicking her. People love the resemblance/impersonation, but the truth is there can only ever be one Asha ji.”

Lyricist and poet Manoj Muntashir paid tribute to Asha Bhosle through a poem. 

Filmmaker Karan Johar also paid his respect and said that, “To say we have lost a legend today would be an understatement. Asha ji was unlike any other, a voice that defined not only one generation but across a span of cinematic universe! I was and have been the massive fan of her voice, her art, her personality…Asha ji, your music will live on forever and we are blessed to experience the magic you have left behind forever! Rest in peace and power.”

Raveena Tandon also remembered Asha Bhosle and said that this loss can never be compensated.

Taking yo Instagram, she wrote, “Oh no Ashaji , just love you. Am so glad that at every every give opportunity I told you that I love you.”

Subhash Ghai also took to Instagram and  wrote, "An iconic singer of India Asha bhonsle a unique gem will be remembered in history of voice of India with so much versatility never before, never after. It's my personal loss too as she has always bestowed her special love n blessings me n my family. You have passed away very graciously at 92 giving a wealth of songs to our n next generations of India."

Singer Jubin Nautiyal also expressed her grief and wrote a long note, "The voice that once turned silence into soul... has now become silence itself. With the passing of Asha Bhosle, the world hasn't just lost a singer — it has lost an era, a feeling, a heartbeat that lived inside millions of songs. Her voice wasn't just heard… it was felt — in heartbreak, in love, in longing, in celebration. Generations didn't just grow up listening to her, they grew up feeling through her. Today, the melodies feel heavier. The silence feels louder. But legends like her don't leave… they echo. In every note, in every memory, in every heart that ever found comfort in her songs. Rest in eternal music. Prayers to Family. Har Har Mahadev."

Veteran Bollywood actress Hema Malini remembered Asha Tai and wrote that she cannot believe that the legendary singer is no more.

Remembering the singer, Kajol said that she was always a legend.

Taking to Instagram, she wrote, "Ashatai was, is and will always be a legend .. as a singer , as a persona and as a human being .. loved everything about her.. from her love of life, food and sense of humour and off course her first love .. her singing! She always had a personality in the songs she sang and we as actors were always coming up short trying to give to camera what she could express in her voice."

Singer Harshdeep Kaur also said, "Asha Bhosle ji - “The Voice of Love” is no longer with us.. Unable to accept this news.. just met her last month and took her blessings.. her aura as always put me in awe.. She was an inspiration.. an institution of music.. she will always live with us through her melodious songs."

Singer Vishal Mishra shared a picture with the legendary singer and said that, “Bas yaade reh jaati hain.”

Actor Sudhanshu Pandey posted an old picture with the legendary singer and remembered her saying, "APKI GOAD MEIN SAR RAKHKAR JAB YE TASVEER LEE THI TAB NAHI SOCHA THA KI YE MERI SABSE ANMOL DHAROHAR BAN JAYEGI AAYI AAP ISS DUNIYA KO APNI SUNDAR AAWAAZ SE SAJAA KE CHALI GAYI .. HAMESHA KE LIYE .. WILL MISS U FOREVER Aayiiii."

Singer AR Rahman shared a picture with the veteran singer on Instagram and wrote, “She lives forever with her voice and aura ..What an artist.”

Actress Tanishaa Mukerji also shared a picture with Asha Bhosle and wrote, “Deeply saddened to hear about the legendary, phenomenal voice of India, Asha Bhosle ji having left us. It is beyond anybody’s explanation what an impact she made not only on our lives but even on a personal level.”

When will Asha Bhosle's last rites be performed?

Asha Bhosle's son, Anand Bhosle, informed that his mother's last rites will be performed on Monday at Shivaji Park in Mumbai at 4 pm.

The singer's body will be kept for public viewing at her home in Lower Parel at 11 am on Monday.

The last rites of Asha Bhosle will be performed on Monday at Shivaji Park in Dadar at 4 pm, the same place where her sister Lata Mangeshkar was also cremated.
