Mumbai: After repeatedly breaching undertakings, the Delhi High Court has directed Bollywood Actor Rajpal Naurang Yadav to surrender before the concerned Jail Superintendent by Wednesday, regarding payment of settlement amounts in a series of cheque dishonour cases.

What did the court say?

During the hearing, the Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma said that the conduct of the actor Rajpal Yadav "deserves to be deprecated", after opportunities and leniency given by the court.

“….this Court is of the view that the conduct of the petitioner no. 1 (Yadav) deserves to be deprecated. Despite repeatedly giving assurances and seeking indulgence of this Court, the petitioner no. 1 has failed to comply with the orders passed from time to time,” the Court said.

Despite repeatedly giving assurances, Rajpal Yadav failed to settle the amount commitments made to the complainant company.

What was the case?

Justice Swarana said that the Court has shown considerable indulgence to the actor on the basis of assurances that the matter will be settled amicably.

The actor had assured the court that Rs 2.5 crore would be paid in traches, including the amounts he had failed to deposit within the extended timelines.

Justice Swarana said that no transactions and clarification was done by the actor.

The court during the hearing said, "The explanation now offered that there was a typographical error in the DDs does not inspire confidence, particularly when the petitioner no. 1 was aware of the alleged error in the DDs as early as 18.12.2025, yet continued to seek adjournments without complying with the substantive directions of this Court. Even after the order dated 20.01.2026, whereby indulgence was again shown and time was granted to deposit the DDs by 21.01.2026 and to pay the amount of Rs 2.10 crores by 27.01.2026, the petitioner no. 1 has failed to comply."

"Till date, neither the amount of Rs 40 lakhs has been deposited nor the amount of Rs 2.10 crores has been paid, despite the payment of Rs 2.5 crores having been assured much earlier,” it added.

The Justice Sharma highlighted the repeated breach of undertaking given by the Court and also said that they have found no justification to continue the indulgence granted to the actor.

The court also directed that the amounts already deposited with the Registrar General to be released in favour of the complainant company.

Further, will ordering the petitioner to surrender, the court said, "However, in the interest of justice, the petitioner no. 1 is directed to surrender before the concerned Jail Superintendent by 04.02.2026, 4:00 PM, to serve the sentence awarded to him by the learned Trial Court."

"List on 05.02.2026, seeking compliance from the concerned Jail Superintendent," the court said.

The limited time granted for surrender was only in the interest of justice and on the submission that Rajpal Yadav was engaged in professional work in Mumbai.
