New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned actor-turned-politician and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay again for questioning on Tuesday in connection with the probe into the Karur stampede tragedy, according to reports.
The actor-turned-politician was earlier questioned by the agency at its headquarters on January 12 and 19.
During the investigation, officials said the CBI has gathered additional material that requires further clarification from Vijay.
According to officials, the CBI has issued a new notice requiring Vijay to appear before investigators for further questioning.
Vijay was previously questioned by the CBI for over six hours in New Delhi on January 12. During that session, he denied responsibility for the stampede, saying neither he nor his party was to blame. Officials also questioned him about delays in his arrival at the rally and other details of the event.
Vijay clearly told the CBI that neither he nor his party caused the tragedy. He said the event went out of control because of crowd size. He denied any act of negligence or planned failure.
Vijay on January 19 reached the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) office in Delhi for a second round of questioning in the probe into the Karur stampede case, which claimed 41 lives during a party campaign in September 2025.
The CBI is scrutinising the deadly crowd crush at a political rally in Karur district, Tamil Nadu, last September in which 41 people died and many more were injured. The inquiry was ordered by the Supreme Court after questions were raised about crowd management and safety arrangements.
Investigators are looking into several aspects of the incident, including how the event was organised, how the crowd was managed, and whether there were lapses in planning or execution that contributed to the tragedy. Statements given by Vijay are being matched with those of police officials and party aides as the agency tries to build a clearer picture of what happened.
