On July 3, 2025, the popular quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) celebrated 25 years since it first aired. The programme, hosted by Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan, has been a leading of Indian television since its launch on July 3, 2000.

Marking this milestone, Bachchan took a break from preparing for the new season to express his feelings about the journey. Now 81, he reflected on how much the show has meant to him and viewers alike over the last two and a half decades.

Surprised by the Milestone

In a message posted on his official X account, Bachchan shared that he had no idea the anniversary had arrived until the crew reminded him. “As I sit down for this year’s shoot preparations, the team tells me — it’s been 25 years since KBC first aired. Hard to believe how quickly time passed,” he wrote.

He expanded on this thought in his blog, recalling how the day had started like any other. Only later did he realise the significance of the date. “Didn’t even notice the years fly by,” he added, touched by the moment.

A Show That Became a Movement

Originally adapted from the British show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, KBC became much more than a quiz show in India. It brought people from all walks of life to the spotlight and gave them a platform to share their journeys.

Bachchan’s phrase “Lock kiya jaye?” became iconic, and his calm, encouraging presence made the show a weekly ritual in many homes.

Looking Ahead with Gratitude

Bachchan's career received a new boost with KBC, which also marked his television debut. Today, the programme stands as a symbol of inspiration and hope. As it steps into its 26th year, with Bachchan still leading, it continues to connect generations through knowledge, emotion, and storytelling.
