This isn’t the first time news has emerged about an Apple device saving someone’s life. Similar cases have come up before. This time, a 53-year-old mountaineer's life was saved by an amazing iPhone feature. In fact, this person was stranded at an altitude of nearly 10,000 feet in the mountains and was struggling to even walk — but thanks to the satellite messaging feature in the iPhone, his life was saved.

According to a report by the media, cited by Apple Insider, the mountaineer went down from Snowmass Mountain after a climb. He was using a technique called glissading, which involves sliding down snow-covered slopes in a controlled manner. However, during this process, he injured his wrist, which left him unable to walk. At the time of the injury, the mountaineer had neither cellular network nor Wi-Fi connectivity on his phone.

In such a situation, getting help seemed nearly impossible, and the man was completely alone. He used the satellite feature to send a text to his home. Upon receiving the alert, immediate action was taken, and the mountaineer was rescued.

Which iPhone models have this feature?

Apple has provided this feature in the iPhone 14 and all subsequent models. It becomes especially useful when there is no mobile network or Wi-Fi connectivity. The feature uses satellites to send iMessages or SMS, allowing you to stay connected with your family and friends — particularly during emergencies when there's no signal on your phone. This feature is available in iOS 18 and is currently accessible to users in only a few selected countries.
