Mumbai: After the Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav surrendered in Tihar Jail in connection with the Rs 9 crore debt and cheque bounce cases, the only actor who came to his rescue is actor Sonu Sood.
After the Delhi High Court refused to extend the deadline related to his conviction in cheque-bounce cases, the 'Hera Pheri' actor surrendered before the Tihar Jail authorities and said that "I don’t have the money. There are no friends. I have to deal with this crisis on my own."
While calling the act as "dignity", the actor Sonu Sood on Tuesday came out to lend support to Rajpal Yadav by offering him a film, and a signing amount to assist him financially.
The actor also appealed to the other members of the cinema industry to come in support so that Rajapl Yadav knows he is not alone in this.
Taking to X, Sonu Sood said that "Rajpal Yadav is a gifted actor who has given years of unforgettable work to our industry. Sometimes life turns unfair, not because of talent, but because timing can be brutal. He will be part of my film, and I believe this is the moment for all of us...producers, directors, colleagues to stand together."
"A small signing amount, adjustable against future work, is not charity, it’s dignity. When one of our own is going through a tough phase, the industry must remind him he’s not alone. This is how we show we are more than just an industry," his post further read.
Rajpal Yadav, who is facing financial crunch, before surrendering to the Tihar Jail authorities said "Sir, yahan hum sab akele hain."
When Rajpal Yadav was asked about the legal issues, he replied, “Sir, kya karoon? Mere paas paise nahin hain (sir, what to do? I don’t have the money to pay back). Aur koi upaay nahin dikhta (can’t see another way out).”
Later, he was also asked why he didn’t ask his friends such as Priyadarshan for help. To which, Rajpal said, “Sir, yahan hum sab akele hain (Sir, we are all on our own over here). There are no friends. I have to deal with this crisis on my own.”
The long legal battle began in 2010 after Rajpal reportedly borrowed Rs 5 crore from Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to fund his directorial debut, Ata Pata Laapata (2012).
After the film’s failure at the box office, the actor started facing financial problems, leading to a legal battle.
