New Delhi: At least 14 workers were injured on Friday in a violent incident at a factory in central Japan. Local emergency services said the attack involved both stabbing and the spraying of an unknown liquid inside the plant.
The alarm was raised shortly after 4:30 pm when staff at the rubber factory reported that several people had been stabbed. Fire officials arriving at the scene found multiple injured and began transporting victims to nearby hospitals.
An official said that a call was received at about 4.30 pm (0730 GMT) from a nearby rubber factory saying "five or six people were stabbed by someone," and that a "spray-like liquid" had also been used.
Was anyone arrested?
Police detained a man at the factory shortly after the incident. The media reported that officers arrested him on suspicion of attempted murder.
Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s identity or confirmed a motive. Investigators are also looking into what the sprayed liquid was and whether it contributed to the injuries.
Official reports say that five or six people were stabbed by someone, and all victims were conscious when taken to the hospital, but the precise condition of those hurt has not been made public.
