At least 14 killed in bomb blasts, gunfire in Pakistan

Islamabad: Two bomb attacks and a gunfight between police and militants in northwest Pakistan have killed at least 14 people and over two dozen were injured, according to officials.

Where did the incident happen?

According to media reports, at least 14 people were killed, and over two dozen were injured in the violence in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. 

The incident included two bomb blasts and a gunfight, according to reports.

How did the attack happen?

The first blast was a suicide bombing at a religious seminary in Bajaur district, which killed eight security personnel and injured about 10 people.

The attack damaged the nearby houses as well, which caused a roof to collapse.

The second bomb blast took place in Bannu town when an explosive-laden rickshaw detonated near the Miryan police station, which killed two civilians and injured 17 others.

During the search operation, which is the third incident, three police personnel were killed in Shangla district, which resulted in the deaths of three militants linked to attacks on Chinese nationals.

In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said militants attempted to storm the checkpost but were met with a swift response from security forces and law enforcement agencies, according tpo media reports.

“The assailants sought to breach the checkpost security; however, their designs were decisively foiled by the vigilant response of the personnel on duty,” the statement said.

Any previous incident?

These incidents come after a recent mosque bombing in Islamabad that killed 31 and injured 169. The Islamic State had claimed responsibility for that attack.
