Washington: The US Department of Justice (DOJ) has created a new controversy by releasing a video related to Jeffrey Epstein. Questions are being raised about this video because this clip is said to have been taken a few hours before Epstein's death, and it was made public without any official statement.
According to reports, this video was suddenly uploaded to the DOJ's website along with documents and photographs that were being released as part of the Epstein investigation files. The New York Post first pointed this out.
In this footage of about 12 seconds, a white-haired man is seen in an orange prison uniform. He is seen sitting on his knees near a bunk bed in a prison cell in Manhattan and is seen moving in great restlessness. The time recorded on the video is 4:29 am, 10 August 2019. This is the date when, a few hours later, Epstein was found unconscious in New York's Metropolitan Correctional Center.
The video had “J Epstein” written in one corner and was included in a package of digital documents released by the DOJ.
A new twist in this whole matter came when the New York Post claimed that this video was not real but an edited clip already circulating on an online forum called 4chan. According to the report, a person who believes in conspiracy theories in Florida alerted the investigating agencies about this video. The DOJ then quietly removed the clip from its website.
Till now it has not been clarified by the Justice Department as to who uploaded the video, whether it was genuine or not, and what the concrete reason for removing it is.
This development comes at a time when the DOJ had temporarily removed a photo of President Donald Trump from the Epstein files a day earlier. Officials later said that this was done due to concerns about the privacy of the victims and not for any political reason.
US officials have consistently said Jeffrey Epstein committed suicide before facing trial on sex trafficking charges. However, his death has been suspected for years due to lapses in prison surveillance and security lapses. There have been many speculations and claims of conspiracy regarding this matter.
Epstein's brother Mark Epstein has also rejected the suicide theory and expressed the possibility of murder. However, the DOJ has not commented on his claims in relation to the new video.
The Epstein files released by the Justice Department include a large number of documents, photographs, and videos. Some of these materials are said to be extremely sensitive. Previously released records included photos of Epstein with underage girls and footage from properties that investigators linked to his crime network.
These files also contain many documents with Epstein's close associate Ghislaine Maxwell. Maxwell has been convicted in cases of trafficking and sexual exploitation of minor girls and is currently serving a 20-year sentence.
Additionally, some old video clips taken from inside the prison are also included, which officials claim show no signs of anyone coming or going outside Epstein's cell. The questions raised regarding the new video have once again brought Epstein's death and the mysteries related to it into the center of discussion.
