International news: US President Donald Trump on Thursday expressed grief over the shooting death of activist Charlie Kirk at a college event in Utah. Trump has vowed to take action against those who spread political violence. In a video message shared by the White House, Trump said that for years, radical leftists have compared wonderful Americans like Charlie to Nazis and the world's worst mass murderers and criminals. The US President also claimed that the rhetoric of radical leftists is directly responsible for terrorism in America and it must be stopped immediately.
He further said in the video message, my administration will hunt down all those who have contributed to this atrocity and other political violence, including the organizations that finance and support it, as well as those who go after our judges, law enforcement officers, and all others who bring order to our country.
Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist and close ally of President Donald Trump, was shot and killed at a college event in Utah on Wednesday in what the governor called a political assassination carried out from a rooftop. Authorities said a suspect was in custody.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox said, "This is a dark day for our state. This is a sad day for our country. I want to say clearly that this is a political assassination." A video posted on social media by Utah Valley University shows Kirk speaking into a handheld microphone while sitting under a white tent with slogans such as American Comeback and Prove Me Wrong written on it.
A shot is fired and Kirk can be seen raising his right arm while bleeding heavily from the left side of his neck. Shocked onlookers can be heard gasping and screaming, followed by people running away. Kirk was speaking at a debate hosted by his nonprofit political organization. Just before the shooting, Kirk was fielding questions from an audience member about mass shootings and gun violence.
