Washington: US President Donald Trump posted a video on his Truth Social platform on Saturday and claimed that several top Iranian military leaders have been "terminated" in a major attack in Tehran. He wrote that these were the people who ran Iran in a "wrong and unwise manner." However, the post did not specify the date, location or who carried out the attack.

What was in the video, and does it prove anything?

The video that accompanied Trump's post showed explosions over a city in the dark of night, but there was no mention of when or where it took place. RNZ means only the sound of explosions and lights. So is this claim true, or just pressure politics? Trump's post came on the same day he gave Iran a 48-hour ultimatum: either open the Strait of Hormuz or "all hell will rain down on them." In such a situation, this claim may seem like not just information but also an attempt at strategic pressure.

What did Iran say about this ultimatum?

General Ali Abdullahi Aliabadi, head of Iran's military's top command Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, called Trump's threat a "helpless, panicked, unbalanced and foolish act." It means Iran clearly refused to bow down.

Had Iran's military leaders been targeted before also?

Major advances have been made before in this war; the IDF claimed to have killed Iran's ballistic missile chief in one strike. Trump even said the Iranian regime had fallen and was in talks with a new, more cooperative government, but according to Western officials and U.S. intelligence assessments, there is no concrete indication that Iran's regime has actually weakened.

What could happen next?

Israel is already preparing for the next major attack, and according to reports it is waiting for the green light from the Trump administration to target Iran's energy infrastructure. If senior officers have indeed been killed in Tehran, then Iran's response may be sharper. And even if this claim turns out to be exaggerated, the trust gap between the two countries will deepen further.

For now, the world is watching to see whether Iran responds in the next 48 hours and whether the conflict will turn toward talks or more major attacks.
