New Deal: Under a trade agreement between the United States and India, US President Donald Trump has reduced tariffs for India from 25 percent to 18 percent. This was announced by Donald Trump. He called Prime Minister Narendra Modi a friend and said they discussed trade and ending the war between Russia and Ukraine, among other issues, during a phone call.

What did Donald Trump announce?

Sharing details about the trade deal with India, US President Donald Trump wrote on social media, "It was an honor to speak with Prime Minister Modi of India today. He is one of my closest friends and a powerful and respected leader of his country. We discussed trade and ending the Russia-Ukraine war, among other issues."

In his post, Trump also claimed that India has stopped buying oil from Russia and has agreed to buy more oil from the US and possibly Venezuela. This, he said, will help end the ongoing war in Ukraine, where thousands of people are being killed every week!

What did Donald Trump say om PM Modi?

Referring to PM Modi as his friend, he said, "Because of my friendship and respect for Prime Minister Modi, and at his request, we have agreed to a trade agreement between the United States and India, effective immediately, under which the US will reduce reciprocal tariffs from 25% to 18%.  Similarly, India will also take steps to reduce its tariffs and non-tariff barriers on American goods to zero."

Trump further stated that Modi has committed to adopting a "Buy American" policy at a very high level. India will buy more than $500 billion worth of energy, technology, agriculture, coal, and other American products from the US.

Trump said, "Our amazing relationship with India will only get stronger. Modi and I are two people who get things done, which can't be said about most people."
