Donald Trump criticized Putin: US President Donald Trump on Tuesday strongly criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin over the ongoing war in Ukraine. Trump said he did not understand why Putin was continuing the war and believed the war "should have been won in a week." He made this comment during a bilateral lunch with Argentinian President Javier Milei at the White House.
The meeting came shortly after the US government announced a $20 billion financial package to support Argentina's economy. Trump's statement came ahead of a meeting in which he will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and discuss continued US support for Kiev.
According to some reports, Trump is considering sending US-made Tomahawk long-range cruise missiles to Ukraine. He said he was going to send Tomahawks to Kiev if the Ukraine conflict was “unresolvable.” This step is being considered to push Russia back and send a strong message to Kiev.
Ukrainian President Zelensky said that in his conversation with Trump, Ukraine's security, air defense, long-range military capabilities, and energy sector were discussed in detail. Zelensky expressed hope that Trump's success in brokering an Israel-Hamas ceasefire could serve as a precedent for similar efforts with Russia.
Russian state media reported that the US decision to supply Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine could further strain US-Russia relations. In early October Putin said that the Tomahawk could not be used without US military personnel.
