Big warning for America: 100-foot tsunami after quake, study says disaster coming

Scientists have predicted a devastating earthquake on the west coast of America, which could trigger a massive tsunami. A large part of the west coast could be destroyed due to the megatsunami.

International News: A huge danger is looming over America. This danger is not from any country or terrorist organization but is natural. Scientists have predicted a catastrophic tsunami in America in the near future. A new study has found that a devastating earthquake is certain to occur in America's Cascadia Subduction Zone (CSZ) by the year 2100. This can happen at any time in the next 50 years, with a 37 percent probability. Scientists have warned of a 100-foot-high tsunami that will devastate most of the west coast.

The Cascadia Subduction Zone (CSZ) is an approximately 1100-kilometer-long fault line off the west coast of North America, where the tectonic plate, the Juan de Fuca plate, slides beneath another tectonic plate, the North American plate. It extends from Canada's northern Vancouver Island to the southern half of the US west coast, running along the coasts of Washington, Oregon, and California.

Tsunami up to 100 feet high

Scientists warn that a magnitude 8.0 to 9.0 quake would produce waves as high as 100 feet, devastating much of the West Coast. The shoreline would immediately sink by about 8 feet. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) estimates that the CSJ quake alone would cause 5,800 deaths, while the resulting tsunami would kill another 8,000.

America will be hit by havoc

The international team, led by researchers at Virginia Tech, said these predictions will get worse over time due to rising sea levels. "This will definitely be a very devastating event for the United States. There will be a tsunami, and it will be devastating," said study lead author Professor Tina Dura. The study estimates that sea levels will rise by two feet due to climate change by the year 2100. If no other major earthquake occurs in the Cascadia subduction zone by then, the increased water level will likely cause more devastation and flooding than the damage in 2025.
