Rome: Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has thanked Pakistan regarding the US-Iran peace agreement. She stated that this agreement was made possible thanks to Pakistan and Qatar, and she expressed her gratitude to all the mediators involved. In addition to Meloni, leaders from France, Germany, and the United Kingdom have also thanked Pakistan and Qatar for their roles as mediators in the US-Iran peace agreement.
Giorgia Meloni wrote on X: "Together with France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, we have strongly welcomed the recent agreement (Memorandum of Understanding) reached between the US and Iran. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the mediators—especially Qatar and Pakistan—who made this agreement possible. This is an opportunity for peace that must not be missed; Italy stands ready, as always, to support the diplomatic process towards a comprehensive agreement."
She stated, "The principles are absolutely clear: Iran cannot acquire nuclear weapons, and freedom of maritime navigation must be guaranteed. Together with other allies, and subject to necessary parliamentary approval, we are prepared to contribute to an international naval presence to fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Finally, a cessation of hostilities is also essential in Lebanon, where Italy will continue to work in support of Lebanese sovereignty."
In a joint statement, Meloni and the leaders of the other three European nations congratulated the US and Iranian governments, as well as all parties involved in facilitating the agreement. They also acknowledged the role played by the mediators in advancing the diplomatic process. In a joint statement, European leaders said, “We warmly welcome the announcement of the MoU between the US and Iran. We congratulate the US and Iranian governments, as well as all those involved—including Pakistan, Qatar, and other mediators—on this diplomatic breakthrough.”
The statement described the deal as an opportunity to restore regional stability and stabilize the global economy. It also emphasized the importance of concluding detailed negotiations and ensuring the agreement is implemented without delay. The leaders stated, “It is now crucial to finalize the detailed talks and ensure the agreement is implemented swiftly and fully. We stand ready to support this effort.” The four nations also underscored the importance of maritime security in the Gulf and called for the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the resumption of unhindered navigation for commercial vessels.
