Golden Jubilee & Digital Leap: PM Modi’s Historic Visit Strengthens India-Seychelles Strategic Ties

During a milestone visit coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Seychelles' independence and five decades of bilateral diplomatic relations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a significant push toward a future-ready partnership.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed gratitude for being honored as the "Guardian of the Blue Horizon" award. He also thanked President of Seychelles for the welcoming gesture. He addressed the gathering and said, "India and Seychelles will work with each other".

He appreciated the UPI Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). He quoted, “I am happy that an MoU has been signed between India and Seychelles for UPI."

What PM Modi had announced?

During the bilateral discussions, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the need to build a resilient and future-oriented economic partnership. He also uncovered fresh avenues for industrial growth that can improve connectivity between India and Seychelles. He also noted that this historic visit aligns with a dual milestone.

“I am visiting Seychelles at a historic moment, as the country marks 50 years of independence and we celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations between Bharat and Seychelles. Over these five decades, we have transformed friendship into trust, trust into cooperation, and cooperation into people’s welfare," he said.

How was the Jubilii celebration?

The moment was the 50th anniversary of Seychelles' independence and 50 years of formal diplomatic ties between these two nations. Over the past half-century, he highlighted, the relationship has evolved from mutual friendship into deep trust and actionable cooperation aimed at public welfare.

PM Modi highlighted the bilateral talks and said, “Today, we discussed making our economic cooperation more resilient and future-ready. We will continue to explore new opportunities for the industries of both our countries. Work will also be done to enhance connectivity between India and Seychelles."

What he said upon digitalisation and UPI?

Prime Minister Modi also underscored digital cooperation as a powerful way to bring India and Seychelles closer together. He announced that India will share its expertise in Digital Public Infrastructure with Seychelles, starting with a newly signed agreement to roll out the UPI payment system there. Additionally, the Prime Minister committed Indian support to help train Seychelles' security forces.
