Moscow: Even as US President Donald Trump threatens Denmark and other NATO countries in an attempt to seize Greenland, Russia has stepped into the ring with Vladimir Putin issuing a threat of his own. Trump has released a map in which he depicts Greenland, Venezuela, and Canada as part of the United States. European NATO countries are furious over the Greenland issue. NATO countries have even sent troops to Greenland, but Trump appears undeterred.

What has Vladimir Putin said on the Greenland issue?

Meanwhile, Alexander Dugin, a close associate of Russian President Vladimir Putin, has said that the way Trump is claiming Greenland for the US could lead Russia to also invade and claim territory in seven countries around the world. These seven countries could potentially include Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. These were areas under Russian influence during the Soviet era.

Dugin, who is closely associated with President Putin ideologically, argued that Trump's pressure to seize Greenland would give Russia an opportunity to expand its territory throughout Eurasia, disregarding international law. Alexander Dugin, who often criticizes Western countries, said that Russia would have to "do something terrible" to restore its credibility in a world where results are determined by power rather than international standards.

What does Russia want?

Putin's associate cited Trump's repeated statements that complete control of Greenland is necessary for global security. Dugin said that Russia should also openly adopt this colonialist logic and expand its territory. He said that if the US claims new territories in the name of national security, then Russia should do the same.

"Only brutality, strength, and massive destruction matter in a Trump-like world," he wrote on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

Alexander Dugin listed territories such as Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan, and said that Russia should move to establish its influence in these places. This should be presented as an attempt to restore Russia's colonial influence. Dugin advised Putin that Moscow should disregard international law and adopt a "Eurasian Monroe Doctrine," and accept a world dominated by the US, Russia, and China.

"If Trump says this is my territory and it will be American, then we should also say that this is our territory, and it will be Russian," Dugin said.

He said that Russia should continue to significantly increase its political, economic, and military influence in Central Asia and the Caucasus region. Millions of people from these regions work in Russia and send money back home. Dugin also warned against exerting pressure on the Baltic states and Moldova.
