Singapore: An Indian national working as a staff nurse at premium hospital Raffles in Singapore was accused of harassing a young man. After the full court hearing, the court found her guilty. She was sentenced to a year and two months' jail, and two strokes of the cane after he pleaded guilty to a molestation charge.

Nurse Sentenced for Misconduct in Hospital

The nurse, identified as Elip Shiva Nagu, was found guilty of molesting a young man at the hospital where she worked. She carried out the act under the pretext of disinfecting him. Once the incident came to light, she was immediately dismissed from her job. The court sentenced her to 1 year and 2 months in jail along with two lashes for her actions.

Accused Confessed Her Crime

According to media reports, the nurse admitted her guilt during the court hearing. Following her confession, the court announced its decision on Friday after reviewing all the evidence. As per the final judgment, she received a total sentence of 14 months in prison. The court was also informed that the victim continues to have painful memories of the incident. However, no personal information about the victim was revealed publicly.

What Did the Prosecutor Tell the Court?

Deputy Public Prosecutor Eugene Phua told the court that on June 18, the victim had visited his grandfather, who was admitted to the hospital on North Bridge Road. Around 7:30 p.m., the victim went to use a patient’s washroom. While he was inside, Elip peeked in. Under the excuse of disinfecting him, she applied soap on his hand and harassed him. The court was told that the victim was so shocked that he could not move. After the incident, the victim returned to his grandfather’s bedside in distress. A police case was registered on June 21, and the nurse was arrested two days later.
