Tehran: The tension in the Middle East is now spreading to the Gulf countries. The impact of the ongoing conflict between America, Israel and Iran has reached Kuwait. There were reports of drone attacks in Kuwait on Sunday morning, in which oil fields and government complexes were targeted. The situation seems to be becoming more serious.
Kuwaiti officials allege that an Iranian drone carried out the attack. The attack took place on the Shuwaikh oil field complex, where the headquarters of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) and the Oil Ministry are located. Apart from this, government ministries complexes and some power-water desalination plants were also affected. Kuwait has called it “unjust Iranian aggression."
Fire broke out in Shubaikh Complex. Smoke and flames are seen rising in the video. Government ministries buildings also suffered significant material damage. Attacks on power and desalination plants resulted in the shutdown of two power units. The good thing is that no casualties have been reported so far. Efforts to extinguish the fire are ongoing and the buildings were evacuated.
Kuwait Army said that their air defense system is fully active. Efforts are being made to stop the incoming drones and missiles. The explosions heard in the sky were mostly of interception. The Army appealed to the people to follow safety measures.
These attacks are taking place in response to America-Israel attacks on Iran. Iran is now also targeting the Gulf countries (which it considers America's allies). There are continuous reports of drone-missile attacks on Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain etc. This has increased instability in the entire area.
The scope of the attacks is expanding to oil facilities, power plants, government buildings; everything is under threat. If this trend continues, it could have a huge impact on the economy, oil supply and lives of common people in the Gulf countries. Concern is also increasing at the international level.
Right now Kuwait's security agencies are on alert and monitoring the situation. But the sequence of attacks does not seem to be stopping. The whole world is watching to see whether any diplomatic efforts succeed or the conflict escalates further. Trump's 48-hour ultimatum is still hanging in the air.
