Tel Aviv: Tension between Israel and Turkey regarding Syria seems to be increasing continuously. An Israeli newspaper has claimed that if Turkish troops are deployed in Syria and then Israel attacks it, the matter may reach NATO. Article 5 of NATO has also been mentioned in the report, due to which there is fear of a possible major conflict in West Asia.

Why is Israel worried about Turkish forces in Syria?

According to the report, Israel does not want Turkey to increase its military presence in some strategic areas of Syria. Israel believes that Turkey's growing power could become a new security challenge for it in the region. Turkey already has its military presence in Syria and its activities are continuing in different areas there.

The report claims that if Turkish soldiers are present in a sensitive area and Israel attacks there, the situation can become extremely complicated.

What does Article 5 of NATO say?

Article 5 of NATO is a provision related to collective security. In general, this means that an attack on any one member state can be considered a serious matter for the entire alliance system. However, the decision as to how this provision will apply in a particular incident depends on the circumstances and the response of NATO member states.

This is the reason why questions are being raised about Turkey's military presence in Syria and the possibility of Israeli action.

Can Israel attack Turkish troops?

This is not an official statement from the Israeli government but a claim made in media reports. Therefore, it cannot be directly considered Israeli government policy. According to the report, Israel is cautious about Turkey's military activities in Syria and the increasing competition between the two countries is causing tension.

Has tension increased earlier also?

According to the report, Israel had targeted an old airbase in northern Syria. Israel believed that Turkey's military activities could increase there. However, there were different claims regarding the presence of Turkish troops at that time.

Will Syria again become a field of major conflict?

At present there has been no direct war between Israel and Turkey. But the increasing military and strategic activities of both countries in Syria may increase tension in future. The biggest question is that if Turkish soldiers are affected in any attack, what will be NATO's reaction. This uncertainty is making this entire matter extremely sensitive for West Asia.
