Tel Aviv: On Wednesday night, Iran fired ballistic missiles at Israel's economic capital Tel Aviv. Now this fight is not limited to borders or military bases only, but big cities and ordinary citizens have become the direct target. Iran has described it as revenge for the death of Ali Larezani, while Israel is calling it a "brutal attack".
According to Israeli officials, a missile hit a residential building in the Ramat Gan area, killing a 70-year-old couple on the spot. Both of them could not reach the bunker in time. The missile hit their fourth-floor flat directly. The shrapnel and explosion caused a lot of destruction in the building, with glass flying and debris scattered. MDA (Magen David Adom) found both in critical condition but with no pulse; they were declared dead at the scene.
Sirens began sounding throughout Tel Aviv immediately after the attack. People came out of their houses and ran towards the bomb shelter. There was chaos in many areas. Streets are empty, but there's an atmosphere of fear. Security agencies have appealed to people to stay in their homes and remain alert. Debris removal and relief work are going on at many places. There is still tension in the city, people remained awake all night.
Not just residential areas – missile shrapnel also fell on Savidor Central Railway Station, causing massive damage to the platform and complete halt of train services. An emergency vehicle was also affected. At many places people are trapped under the debris, fire and rescue teams are working continuously. According to reports, things like cluster munitions were used, which created different impact sites at many places.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has given strict instructions to the army – action should be taken without delay as soon as the location of any senior Iranian official or Hezbollah leader is found. The traditional approval process has been sidelined, which shows the seriousness of the situation. The defense minister and the IDF said the attack was "brutal" and that the response would be "strong." Netanyahu appealed to Iranians to celebrate Nowruz but warned that the IDF was "keeping watch from the sky".
This attack is part of a larger military confrontation, where America and Israel are jointly attacking Iranian targets. Iran has intensified missile and drone attacks in response. The war, which began in late February, has been going on for weeks now, with thousands of deaths on both sides, millions displaced, and instability in the Middle East at its peak. The situation may worsen in the coming days, because no one from either side seems ready to back down. The question now around the world is, where will this war stop?
