Tel Aviv: Following attacks by the US and Israel in West Asia, Iran has unleashed a wave of devastation. Provoked by the American and Israeli strikes, Iran has not only rattled Israel but has also incessantly rained down missiles and drones on U.S. military bases across the Gulf nations. Furthermore, Iran has even targeted U.S. warships.

The situation has reached such a point that the U.S. and the Gulf nations have been compelled to seek assistance from Ukraine regarding drone interception technology. Amidst this scenario, questions are also being raised as to where exactly Iran is obtaining such precise targeting coordinates. The answer to this question is—Russia.

According to a report by 'The Washington Post', Russia has effectively become Iran's 'eyes' in this conflict. Three senior U.S. officials have claimed that Russia is providing Iran with sensitive intelligence—including the exact locations of U.S. warships and military aircraft. The report notes that Russia is extending this assistance to Iran at a time when the role of satellite intelligence and electronic tracking in modern warfare is rapidly gaining prominence.

What Kind of Information is Russia Providing?

It is believed that Russia is sharing imagery and data—gathered through its satellite network—with Iran; this information reportedly includes details regarding the movements of U.S. troops, ships, and aircraft. Although Russian President Vladimir Putin has denied any such cooperation during his interactions with Donald Trump, analysts believe that, given the deepening military ties between Moscow and Tehran, such collaboration remains a distinct possibility.

Prior to this, Iran had also disclosed that it was receiving assistance from both Russia and China in the ongoing conflict. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated that both nations are providing military aid to Iran. It is noteworthy that, over the past few years, defense ties between Russia and Iran have strengthened significantly. Iran has supplied Russia with drones and missiles for the war in Ukraine, and now Russia, too, stands by Iran.

Why is China exercising caution?

On the other hand, China appears to be treading carefully in this matter. According to a CNN report, US intelligence agencies assess that China may be preparing to provide Iran with economic assistance, spare parts, and missile-related equipment. However, due to its reliance on Iranian oil and concerns regarding potential disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, China is currently maintaining a balanced stance.
