New Delhi: Another tense incident in the occupied West Bank is making headlines. A Palestinian youth praying on the roadside was hit by an ATV driven by an Israeli reservist. This matter came to light on Thursday and the Israeli Army has also confirmed it after the video surfaced on social media.
The video of the incident was recorded by a passerby. It shows an ATV moving towards a praying person and hitting him directly. The young man falls and the attacker, who is in civilian clothes, is seen shouting at him. The army has identified the attacker as a reservist. His service was immediately terminated and his weapon was confiscated. The army acknowledged in the statement that this action was a “serious violation of the limits of authority”.
According to the family, the young man was taken to the hospital and released after investigation. There has been pain in both legs since returning home. The victim's father, Majdi Abu Mukho, alleges that pepper spray was also used after the collision, although this is not visible in the video.
They say that the accused is already a controversial person in the area, who has built an illegal outpost near the village and sometimes creates tension by blocking the road.
According to local media, the accused has been taken into custody and sent on house arrest for 5 days. The Times of Israel wrote that some time ago the same person had been accused of opening fire in the village, which the army considered a “serious abuse”.
UN figures speak for themselves:
According to the UN, these years are being counted as the most violent period in the West Bank.
Experts believe that if control is not exercised, both such attacks and demonstrations may increase.
