In her tweet, Machado wrote, "I dedicate this award to the oppressed people of Venezuela and to President Trump for his special support." She further stated that she trusts President Trump, the people of America, and the democratic countries of Latin America and the world to achieve democracy and freedom.

Machado's Struggle and the Award

Machado has been the target of the Venezuelan government for the last year. He accused ruling President Nicolas Maduro of rigging the elections. The Nobel Committee praised his peaceful struggle and efforts to promote democratic rights.

Machado campaigned for former diplomat Edmundo González Urrutia and continued his fight for democracy, despite not previously contesting the elections. The Nobel Committee described this effort as an important step towards a democratic transition against dictatorship in Venezuela.
