International News: The world's leading social media company Meta—which operates platforms like Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp—has taken a big and shocking step. The company has now turned to nuclear energy, which will meet the power needs of its growing AI systems and data centers. You may think that what is the relationship between social media company and nuclear energy? But now technology has reached a point where artificial intelligence, big data and cloud computing require huge amounts of electricity to run day and night. That is why Meta is now looking for energy sources that are clean, reliable and consistent.

A 20-year contract with America's Constellation Energy

Meta has entered into a 20-year long-term agreement with Constellation Energy, a reputed US nuclear energy company. Under this agreement, from 2027 Meta will buy nuclear power directly from the Clinton Clean Energy Center located in the US state of Illinois. This is the same plant, which till now was run with government subsidy, but after 2027 that subsidy is ending. Now META will provide financial support to this plant, so that it runs sustainably and META gets clean energy 24×7.

Large power requirement for data centers

Training AI models, processing Instagram reels, photo-searching or messaging on Facebook—all these require massive computing power. Meta's data centers spread across the world are now consuming so much energy that the traditional grid supply is no longer sufficient.

Meta is also working for the army

Meta is no longer limited to social media. The company along with Anduril Industries is making AR (Augmented Reality) and VR (Virtual Reality) based devices for the US Army. These devices will help soldiers see and hear more clearly by fitting them into their helmets and goggles. It uses AI, sensors and smart vision technology.

This move by Meta shows that the future will not only be about apps or social networks, but also about energy self-reliance and sustainable development. Companies that invest in technology as well as energy will be able to move forward with stability in the future. Mark Zuckerberg's strategy will not only provide clean and reliable electricity to Meta, but will also set an example in the direction of environmentally friendly technology development.
