Tehran: Despite sustaining large scale losses during the Middle East War against the USA and Israel, the Islamic regime of Iran continues to remain defiant. Amidst the escalating tensions in the Middle East, an incident has unfolded on Iranian state television that has caused a major controversy. During a live broadcast, a TV news presenter fired a shot at the national flag of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This shocking incident occurred during a live weapons training segment on Iran's state-owned Ofogh channel.

For this program, broadcast on the channel, a masked commander from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was invited to the studio. On-air, he was providing a live demonstration to viewers on how to load and operate a variant of the AK-47 assault rifle. During the program, the IRGC commander encouraged viewers to visit special booths set up at pro-government rallies to receive weapons training.

What was the incident?

The show took a dramatic turn at the end when the TV host took the rifle, first fired a shot into the studio ceiling, and then—taking direct aim at a UAE flag displayed within the studio—fired a round at it. A video of this incident is rapidly going viral on social media, raising fears that it could further exacerbate the already strained relations between Iran and the Gulf nations.

This controversial broadcast comes at a time when, amidst ongoing military confrontations near the Strait of Hormuz involving Iran, the U.S., and Israel, Iranian state media has significantly ramped up its wartime-style programming. According to reports, news anchors on several Iranian state channels are now hosting programs while holding assault rifles, discussing the country's military preparedness.

Why Did popular anchor Go Live with an Assault Rifle in Hand?

On another state-run channel, prominent news anchor Mobina Nasiri appeared live on air holding an assault rifle and declared that she was fully prepared to sacrifice her life for Iran. Concurrently, Iranian officials are encouraging their supporters to take to the streets every night and hold rallies as part of the national resistance.

Such aggressive military propaganda is being broadcast on Iranian television at a time when Iranian officials have warned of a direct military confrontation should negotiations with the United States break down. Recently, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, warned that if diplomacy fails, Tehran is once again fully prepared for a direct military conflict.
