Abu Dhabi: Amid escalating tensions in West Asia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and several other Gulf nations find themselves in a precarious situation. Against this backdrop, another major incident has unfolded in the UAE.
In the Azban area of Abu Dhabi, debris fell following an aerial explosion—which occurred during the interception of a missile attack—leaving at least 12 people injured. This incident serves as a stark reminder that the ongoing conflict in the region is now directly impacting ordinary civilians as well.
According to the UAE's government media office, the incident occurred when the country's air defense systems successfully intercepted and destroyed missiles and drones—launched from Iran—while they were still airborne. Consequently, fragments from these projectiles fell to the ground, causing injuries to people below. Officials have confirmed that the injured include seven Nepali nationals and five Indian nationals. One Nepali national is reported to be in critical condition.
This incident clearly demonstrates that, even though the missiles were successfully intercepted in mid-air, the resulting debris falling to the ground posed a significant threat. The fragments that landed in the Azban area resulted in injuries to 12 people. The fact that foreign nationals are among the injured underscores that the repercussions of this conflict are extending to people living in the region from across the globe. Authorities promptly transported the injured individuals to a hospital to receive immediate medical treatment.
