New Delhi: Car manufacturers in India are raising the prices of their vehicles. Following Tata Motors, domestic automaker Mahindra & Mahindra has now also announced a price hike. Starting next week - specifically from April 6 - the prices of all Mahindra SUVs, as well as its commercial vehicles, are set to increase by up to 2.5 percent.

Across the company's entire ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) and CV (Commercial Vehicle) portfolio, the price rise will average 1.6 percent. Consequently, if you are planning to purchase a Mahindra vehicle in the coming days—whether it be an SUV from the Scorpio or Thar series, or if your interest lies in the recently launched XUV 7XO or the Bolero series—your wallet will certainly bear a heavier burden.

Mahindra XUV 7XO Customers: Gain or Loss?

Mahindra & Mahindra justifies this price hike by citing continuously rising input costs over time, leaving the company with no alternative but to increase vehicle prices. However, while the company maintains that it is passing only a partial burden of this price hike onto customers, those looking to purchase a Mahindra SUV will still have to pay thousands of rupees more than before.

An important point to note is that Mahindra had offered "price protection" for the first 40,000 bookings of its recently launched XUV 7XO; this means these specific units will remain unaffected by the price hike. However, units booked thereafter will be subject to the increased pricing—news that is certainly not welcome for customers.

Do Raw Material Prices Continue to Rise?

It is worth noting that raw material prices within the global automobile sector have been on a continuous upward trajectory. Driven by rising logistics costs, companies typically implement price hikes at the beginning of the year—specifically in January—but now, announcements regarding price increases are becoming common in April as well.

Alongside Tata Motors and MG, luxury automakers such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and BMW have also announced price hikes for their vehicles. Mahindra's latest move is viewed as part of this broader industry trend.
