Washington: A resolution of the Middle East Conflict in in sight with a potential agreement amidst the ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran on the horizon. Meanwhile, a new development has come to light. It is reported that US President Donald Trump wishes to see the 'Abraham Accords' expanded following the signing of an agreement with Iran and the conclusion of the current conflict.

According to reports, Donald Trump hopes that, once an agreement is reached, Muslim nations will extend the Abraham Accords by formally recognizing Israel. In this regard, Axios—citing conversations with US officials—reported that Trump spoke with leaders from various Arab and other Muslim nations last Saturday regarding this very matter.

What Was the Nature of Donald Trump's Conversations?

Last Saturday, Trump held telephone conversations with the leaders of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and Bahrain to discuss the expansion of the Abraham Accords once an agreement with Iran is finalized; these calls included discussions concerning both Iran and Israel. According to reports, Trump's primary objective behind making these calls is to facilitate an agreement between Saudi Arabia and Israel.

It is worth noting that during these calls, Trump conveyed to the leaders of these Muslim nations his expectation that, once the conflict with Iran concludes, all Muslim countries would take steps to advance the process of normalizing their relations with Israel. However, the Muslim nations involved have not yet issued a formal response to this initiative.

What Exactly Are the Abraham Accords?

The Abraham Accords represent a significant diplomatic initiative launched in 2020. Their primary objective—facilitated through US mediation—is to secure formal recognition for Israel within the Middle East. Additionally, the accords aim to improve and strengthen Israel's diplomatic relations with Arab nations. Notably, the UAE and Bahrain were the first nations to join this initiative.
