Washington: US President Donald Trump stated on Saturday that an agreement to end the ongoing conflict in the Middle East would be signed on Sunday. However, Iran has denied this. In a social media post, Trump mentioned that the deal with Iran is set to be signed on Sunday. Immediately following the agreement, the Strait of Hormuz - a vital artery for global oil supplies that Iran has kept blocked—will be opened to all.

What did Donald Trump say?

Donald Trump compared the proposed deal to the 2015 nuclear agreement (JCPOA) made during former President Barack Obama's tenure. He said, "Barack Hussein Obama's JCPOA deal with Iran was lenient regarding nuclear weapons. Iran would have obtained nuclear weapons six years ago and likely used them by now. My deal with Iran is the exact opposite; it will act as a barrier against nuclear weapons! In fact, they neither want nuclear weapons now nor will they acquire them—whether by purchasing, manufacturing, or any other means."

What did Donald Trump say about Iran's nuclear program?

President Trump also claimed that Iran's nuclear program has been effectively neutralized and that the remaining nuclear material would be disposed of at a later stage. He stated, "At the right time, once things have calmed down, we will go in and extract the nuclear dust buried deep within massive granite mountains. Thanks to our magnificent B-2 bombers and their superb pilots, we will destroy it—whether the material is in Iran or the United States."

Earlier, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that the US-Iran peace agreement could be finalized within the next 24 hours. In a social media post, Shehbaz said, "We are closer than ever to a peace agreement. It is expected to be finalized in the next 24 hours; immediately thereafter, Pakistan is preparing to sign the agreement electronically, followed by technical-level talks next week." He thanked the US and Iran for their sustained commitment during the negotiations and acknowledged the support received from countries in the region.

Meanwhile, signaling progress in the talks, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated, "Never before has such a consensus been reached on the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding." In a social media post, he said, "The media should refrain from speculating about the agreement until it is finalized. In line with our responsible and transparent policy, all information will be shared with the public at the appropriate time." However, he did not provide any details regarding this.
