International News: Nepal has faced its biggest prison crisis in history. Within three days, 18 jails saw mass escapes as 6,000 prisoners ran away. From petty thieves to dangerous criminals, everyone fled. Police officers were left helpless as riots spread into prisons. Families gathered outside jails, but most cells were already empty. This sudden breakdown has raised questions about Nepal’s security system.

India Reacts Swiftly

The Indian Home Ministry issued immediate orders after reports of jailbreaks. Bihar’s 729 km long border with Nepal was declared high alert. Extra units of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) were deployed. Bihar police created temporary checkpoints on every crossing route. Drone cameras were launched to watch hidden paths and riversides. Authorities said daily cross-border traffic makes the task even harder.

Weapons Looted In Nepal

The danger is not limited to prisoners alone. During unrest, mobs also looted weapons from Nepal’s police stations. Rifles and ammunition are now missing. Security officials fear these weapons could be smuggled into Bihar. Smugglers might shelter fugitives in exchange for money. If armed criminals cross over, the threat will multiply. This is why India is treating the issue with utmost seriousness.

Jails Report Huge Escapes

The numbers from individual prisons are shocking. Jhumka Jail reported 1,575 inmates missing. Pokhara Jail lost 900, Chitwan 700, Kailali 612, Mahottari 576, and Kapilbastu 459. Even in Kathmandu, 233 prisoners ran away from Narkhu Jail. In some places, almost every prisoner fled. The situation has shaken people’s trust in Nepal’s administration. Officials admit they are unable to handle such a massive escape.

Villages Fear Infiltration

Border villages in Bihar now live under fear. The open border passes through Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj and other districts. Locals say there are many informal tracks where people cross every day. Smuggling of cattle, liquor and arms is already common. Now the worry is that fugitives may mix with villagers. Residents fear sudden attacks or thefts in their areas.

India Tightens Security

To deal with the crisis, India rushed extra SSB companies to the border. Bihar police launched 24-hour patrols and set up search points. DIG Purnia Pramod Kumar Mandal confirmed new night-vision patrols and drone surveillance. Officials said any suspicious movement will be stopped immediately. Villagers are also being told to report strangers. India wants to ensure Bihar does not become a safe haven for criminals.

Political Roots Of Chaos

The jailbreak is linked to Nepal’s political crisis. Prime Minister Bayrou resigned after anger over his budget plan. His replacement, Defense Minister Lecornu, failed to calm protests. Chaos spread from streets into prisons. With weak government control, prisoners escaped easily.

For India, this turmoil has now created a dangerous security challenge at its doorstep. Nepal’s jailbreak has turned into a two-nation crisis. For Nepal, it is a law-and-order collapse. For India, it is a border security threat. With 6,000 fugitives free and weapons looted, the coming days will test both governments heavily.
