Washington: Clouds of propaganda may linger for a while, but eventually, the sun of truth shines through. Pakistanis lied for a year about Operation Sindoor in 2025, but in the first week of 2026, Pakistani propaganda and claims about Donald Trump's mediation were exposed.
New documents released in the US have revealed that Pakistan pleaded with the Trump administration multiple times to protect it from Indian attacks after the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Moreover, even after the ceasefire was announced on May 10th, when India stated that the ceasefire was temporary and Operation Sindoor was continuing, Pakistan was panicked and begging its "masters" in the US to protect it from India.
These details are contained in documents released under the US Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA). These documents show that Shahbaz Sharif and Asim Munir offered increased investment in the US, special access, and critical minerals in exchange for help, which Donald Trump later repeatedly discussed publicly.
The law firm Squire Patton Boggs uploaded documents under FARA in the US, leading to these new revelations. A log list included in these documents shows that Pakistani diplomats and defense officials contacted their American counterparts more than 100 times via email and phone calls during Operation Sindoor.
During this time, they requested face-to-face meetings with US officials, intermediaries, and even the American media. The FARA filings show that Pakistan contacted various parts of the US government through different lobbying firms in Washington during the May 2025 conflict. This happened more than 100 times.
These documents reveal that Pakistan pleaded with the US to initiate talks with India to end Operation Sindoor. Furthermore, Pakistan had "welcomed" the US offer to mediate in facilitating talks with India. In other words, it was Pakistan, not India, that was pleading with the US for mediation. Therefore, Donald Trump's claim of mediating has fallen flat.
The document states that "Pakistan demands an independent, impartial investigation into the April 22nd attack in Pahalgam. US assistance in this regard would be welcome. Pakistan seeks dialogue with India on all issues dividing the two countries, including the Indus Waters Treaty and counter-terrorism." It further states that "the US should be involved in robust regional counter-terrorism cooperation. Pakistan believes that a third party can help both countries reach credible agreements." These documents further state that "Pakistan also faces terrorist threats from the Pakistani Taliban. The 2025 US DNI Annual Threat Assessment report identifies the Pakistani Taliban as a potential threat to the United States."
The documents reveal that in exchange for stopping the conflict with India, Pakistan offered several benefits to the US. The document states that "Pakistan is prepared to take significant steps to restart its bilateral relations with the US on shared interests. A clear, forward-looking agenda will serve the core interests of both countries and their people. As one of the world's most populous and youngest countries, Pakistan holds great promise for economic growth." The document reveals that Pakistan offered to buy more goods from the US, particularly in the energy and agriculture sectors.
Furthermore, Pakistan told the US that "Pakistan has demonstrated its capability and commitment in the fight against terrorism by arresting and handing over the ISIS bomber responsible for the Kabul Abbey Gate bombing that killed 13 US soldiers." These documents clearly show that Donald Trump's repeated claims of mediation are false. Pakistan, which boasts of winning the conflict against India, has had its bluff called. This clearly shows how the intensity of India's attacks had created panic in Pakistan, filling them with fear that if the war continued, India would cripple their army.
