International News: Oxygen, which is most important for life on Earth, may be exhausted in the coming times. Scientists at Japan's Toho University have carried out a supercomputer simulation based on NASA's planetary modeling. This study (researchers) states that Earth's oxygen-rich atmospheric condition will be exhausted in about 1 billion years, making the existence of life impossible.
For this research , scientists ran 4 lakh simulations and concluded that as the Sun ages, it will become hotter and brighter. This will directly affect the Earth's climate. The surface temperature will increase, the ocean water will evaporate and the carbon cycle will weaken. This will destroy plants and oxygen production will stop. This will once again return the Earth's atmosphere to the same state as it was before the Great Oxidation Event, that is, an atmosphere with less oxygen and rich in methane gas.
This study has been published in a journal called Nature Geoscience. Its title is 'The future lifespan of Earth's oxygenated atmosphere'. Researcher and assistant professor at Toho University Kazumi Ozaki said, 'For many years scientists have believed that due to the continuous brightness of the Sun and the Earth's geochemical cycles, one day the Earth's biosphere will be destroyed.'
According to him, 'It is a common belief that the Earth's biosphere will be destroyed in two billion years due to excessive heat and lack of CO2, but now our simulations show that oxygen depletion can start much earlier, in just 1 billion years.' Despite the lack of oxygen in the future, some form of life may be possible, but it will be completely different from today's life. This research not only gives important indications about the future of the Earth, but also shows how delicate and balanced conditions are needed for life.
