Islamabad: The situation on the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan is continuously worsening. For the last one week, firing and attacks have been taking place between the armies of the two countries at different places. Clashes took place at many places on Friday also.
The United Nations says that this conflict has had the greatest impact on the common people. More than one lakh people living around the border have left their homes and moved to safer places.
In recent times, allegations and counter-allegations have intensified between the two countries. Afghanistan says it targeted Pakistan's border posts and some military bases. Pakistan claims that in retaliation it has carried out air strikes on Taliban-linked targets.
According to the Defense Ministry of Afghanistan, their army targeted many military bases of Pakistan on the about 2600 km long border. The Afghan side says that in this action 14 posts of Pakistan were destroyed and a drone was also shot down.
Seven Afghan civilians and three Taliban fighters were reported killed in the overnight fighting. Apart from this, many people have also been injured. Due to continuous firing, there is an atmosphere of fear in the border areas.
Pakistani security sources say that the army has launched ground and air operations. In this, Kandahar area was also targeted, which is considered a strong stronghold of Taliban. Pakistan has also claimed that it has damaged several border posts of Afghanistan.
The impact of this conflict is clearly visible on common citizens also. People in Kabul demonstrated and expressed anger against Pakistan's attacks. In Laghman province also a large number of people took to the streets and raised slogans against Pakistan.
Incidents of mortar falling in the border areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have also been reported. One person was killed when a mortar fell on a house in Angoor Adda area of South Waziristan. In Mohmand district too, seven people, including two women and two children, were injured when mortar fell on two houses. Many houses have been damaged in these attacks.
Due to continuously increasing clashes, anxiety has increased in the entire area and at present the situation is showing no signs of calming down.
