Islamabad: An earthquake which registered a magnitude of 5.9 on the Richter scale struck parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Punjab provinces in Pakistan on Friday. Tremors were felt in several cities across Pakistan, including Peshawar and Islamabad.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the epicentre of the earthquake was in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan at a depth of 101 kilometres. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage. Pakistan often experiences eathquake tremors as it is located on tectonic plate boundaries. A previous earthquake hit Balochistan last week without reported losses.
Friday's tremors were felt in different cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Punjab, as well as in Islamabad. Pakistan lies in a quake-prone zone due to its location along the boundary of the Arabian Sea, the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.
