Islamabad: In a social media post claiming a potential agreement in the Middle East War, Pakistan prime minister Shahbaz tagged US President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, as well as Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
Shahbaz Sharif stated in his X post, "We are closer than ever to a peace agreement. It is expected to be finalized within the next 24 hours, immediately after which Pakistan is preparing to sign the peace agreement electronically, followed by technical-level talks next week."
He further added, "We wish to thank the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran for demonstrating consistent commitment during the negotiations, and we express our heartfelt gratitude to our brothers in the region for their support. We are confident that this historic peace agreement will form a strong foundation for lasting peace."
He said, "We can confirm that the final, mutually agreed-upon draft of the peace agreement is complete, and Pakistan is now working with both sides to finalize the next steps. We have never been this close to a peace agreement before."
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi, signaling progress in the talks, had remarked, "Such a consensus on the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding had never been reached before." In a social media post, he stated, "The media should refrain from speculating about the agreement until it is finalized. In line with our responsible and transparent policy, all information will be shared with the public at the appropriate time."
