A wedding from Pakistan has caught global attention this week after a 70-year-the man married a 26-year-old woman and the footage of their celebrations went viral on social media. According to video clips circulating online, the man, identified as Hakim Babar, a 70-year-old from Rawalpindi tied the knot with a 26-year-old woman.

The bride is reported to be divorced. After the official nikah, the couple participated in a staged photo session, with several photos and short videos shared across platforms.

What did the couple say?

In the video, Hakim is saying that their marriage is both arrange and love marriage.

"Ours is both an arranged and a love marriage. We liked each other first, my wife fell in love, and then we formalised it by solemnising the nikah," he said.

In another video, he can be heard saying that age is just a number in love. And one should remain young at heart.

"Age is just a number. One should be young at heart. She was a divorcee, and this is Allah’s command and the Prophet’s (PBUH) Sunnah. I acted upon it, so what wrong have I done?" said Babar

What’s in the viral clips?

In the video clips, the strange couple can be seen in traditional wedding attire. Some scenes show the older man and his young wife close together and even singing after the ceremony. In one clip man can be seen kissing the woman.

What did the couple say about the age gap?

The couple, who will be travelling to Netherlands, said that age should not matter when there is mutual affection, and they described their union as both a love match and an arranged marriage.

"I did not commit adultery, so why are people making negative comments? In fact, those who criticise us are often the ones who have had girlfriends and unlawful relationships, yet refuse to marry, they flirt and deceive women instead," he said.

Babar's young wife echoed his sentiment, saying that age should not matter when there is genuine love, and that one should not delay marriage when they have found someone they truly care for.

How are people reacting online?

The viral content has divided opinions. Some social media users find the age difference unusual and have expressed surprise or discomfort. Others have defended the couple’s right to marry as consenting adults.
