Islamabad: Pakistan's Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, has been awarded Saudi Arabia’s highest civilian honour, the King Abdulaziz Medal of Excellence. It is to be noted here that Asim Munir is currently on an official visit to the Kingdom.
“Under a Royal Decree issued by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the King Abdulaziz Medal of Excellent Class, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s highest national honour was also conferred upon the Field Marshal,” the army said on Monday.
A report by Pakistan's Samaa TV stated, ''During the visit, Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir called on Saudi Minister of Defence Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
''It said the meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, including regional security dynamics, defence and military cooperation, strategic collaboration, and evolving geopolitical challenges. Both sides reaffirmed the historic, deep-rooted, and brotherly relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia,'' read the statement further as per the report of the Samaa TV.
After the honour, Asim Munir expressed his gratitude. According to the report by the Samaa TV, ''Asim Munir described the award as a reflection of the enduring bonds between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.''
