PM Modi discusses Iran war with Saudi Prince Salman, condemns attacks on energy facilities

New Delhi: Amidst the ongoing conflict in West Asia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, on Saturday. During the conversation, PM Modi discussed the ongoing conflict in the region. Prime Minister Modi condemned the attacks carried out against Saudi Arabia's energy infrastructure.

What did PM Modi say about attacks on energy infrastructure?

PM Modi posted on X (formerly Twitter): "Spoke with the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and discussed the ongoing conflict in West Asia. I reiterated India's condemnation of the attacks on regional energy infrastructure."

PM  Modi added: "We agreed that ensuring freedom of navigation and keeping shipping lanes open and secure is essential. I thanked him (the Saudi Crown Prince) for his continued support regarding the welfare of the Indian community residing in Saudi Arabia."

Why is Iran Targeting US Bases in Arab Countries?

It is pertinent to note that this conversation took place following an attack carried out by the US and Israel against Iran, which resulted in the death of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Iran fired several missiles toward US military bases located in various West Asian nations, including Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

When did PM Modi have previous conversation with Saudi Prince?

Regarding the West Asia crisis, PM Modi had previously held a conversation with the Saudi Crown Prince on March 2.
At that time as well, PM Modi had condemned the attacks carried out against Saudi Arabia amidst the ongoing conflict in the region.
The Prime Minister had stated then that the attacks on Saudi Arabia constituted a violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Modi also inquired about the well-being of the Indian community residing in both countries during his conversation with the Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister. Prime Minister Modi emphasized that the restoration of regional peace and stability at the earliest is of paramount importance.
