Victoria: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a visit to Seychelles, has been awarded the 'Guardian of the Blue Horizon'. Prime Minister Modi has been honored with Seychelles' highest honor, the 'Guardian of the Blue Horizon,' for leadership in environmental protection and sustainable development.
PM Narendra Modi has been conferred the 'Guardian of the Blue Horizon', Seychelles' highest distinction for leadership in environmental conservation and sustainable development. This award recognizes his long-standing efforts for sustainable growth and PM Modi's green vision.
While addressing the media after several agreements were signed between the two countries, PM Modi said, "The message of my visit to Seychelles is clear, India envisions an Indian Ocean where maritime security is enhanced along with economic prosperity. Where our partnership is based not on size, but on mutual respect and trust. And where we move together, not just next to each other, with each country."
This is another in a series of global honors recognizing PM Modi's work on climate action, sustainable development, and green growth. Just last month, in May 2026, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) awarded him the Agricola Medal for his work in strengthening food security, transforming agriculture, and promoting sustainable agriculture.
Previously, in 2018, he received the Seoul Peace Prize for advancing sustainable economic growth, global cooperation, and inclusive development. In 2018, the United Nations honored him with the prestigious Champions of the Earth Award.
Prime Minister Modi arrived in Victoria, the capital of Seychelles, on Saturday afternoon, where President Herminie, along with several senior ministers and officials, warmly welcomed him at the airport. The welcome ceremony also included a traditional folk dance performance from the Kutch region of Gujarat. PM Modi praised the Indian diaspora, calling it an example of "global connectivity."
Upon arrival, PM Narendra Modi was given a 'Guard of Honor' at the State House. The purpose of this visit is to further strengthen the long-standing bilateral relations between India and Seychelles.
