Russia: The tension between Russia and the media has intensified in Pakistan. The cause of this controversy was Pakistan's English newspaper The Frontier Post, which the Russian Embassy has accused of running an "anti-Russian agenda." The embassy released an official statement on social media platform
The Russian Embassy not only raised objections to the editorial content but also questioned the identity of the newspaper. The statement claimed that the global news department of the newspaper is based in Washington; hence, it is difficult to call it a Pakistani newspaper. The embassy alleges that the newspaper deliberately publishes articles written by staunch anti-Russian writers.
The Russian Embassy says that not a single article has been published in the international section of the newspaper in recent times which has shown any policy or decision of Russia in a neutral or positive light. The embassy argues that this is not journalism but propaganda. He also said that freedom of the press is respected, but this newspaper's reporting seems to be part of a political agenda.
Russia further alleged that The Frontier Post completely ignored the important “format consultation” on Afghanistan held in Moscow on 7 October 2025, while the rest of Pakistan’s media channels covered it prominently. The embassy described it as an example of the newspaper’s “selective journalism” and “Western influence.”
According to the newspaper's claims, Russia is economically weak and is facing the pressure of sanctions. In response, the Russian Embassy shared the figures and said that these things are wrong. The embassy claimed that Russia's GDP grew by 4.1% in 2024, the manufacturing sector grew by 8.5%, the unemployment rate is only 2.5%, and inflation is expected to be around 6.57% in 2025.
At present, there has been no official response from The Frontier Post on this controversy. Whether the dispute escalates or ends will become clear in the coming days.
