International News:Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Sunday that India, Russia, and China are fully aware of their common interests, and this understanding will further strengthen the mutual partnership in the times to come. According to him, there is a clear trend of cooperation among the three countries, which is not limited to diplomatic etiquette but is also visible in practical areas.
Lavrov made this comment in the context of the recent Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit held in Tianjin City, China. Security and economic issues were discussed in depth in this meeting, but the moment that grabbed the headlines was when Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Chinese President Xi Jinping stood in a circle and started talking while holding hands. The international media considered it a symbol of increasing trust and dialogue between the three powers.
America reacted sharply to this scene. Commenting on social media, US President Donald Trump wrote that India and Russia standing with China like this points to "very deep and dark circumstances." His comment clearly shows that Western countries are not comfortable with this triangular partnership and are seeing it as a challenge to their strategic interests.
Lavrov clarified in an interview that it is not necessary for the three countries to completely agree on every issue. He said, "This does not mean that all policies are 100 percent the same. But wherever there are common interests, the tendency of cooperation is clearly visible." According to him, only mutual benefit will make this relationship sustainable.
The Russian Foreign Minister said that the common interests of India, Russia, and China lie mainly in economic development, solving social problems, and improving the living standards of citizens. These areas can become the basis of cooperation in the coming times. Also, security and regional stability are also priorities on which the three countries are focused.
Although the main objective of the SCO conference was to strengthen security and economic cooperation among the member countries, the informal meeting of Modi, Putin, and Jinping gave a different message in international politics. Experts believe that this moment can prove to be an indicator of a new axis and balance of power within Asia in the coming years.
