International News: In a major act of violence, a suicide bomber drove an explosives-packed vehicle into a Pakistani Army convoy in North Waziristan. The impact killed 13 military personnel instantly. The incident occurred on Saturday near the Afghan border. This region is known as a long-time hotspot for militant activity. Officials confirmed that a total of 29 people, including civilians, were injured.
A senior local government officer told AFP that the suicide bomber rammed directly into the moving convoy. As a result, 13 soldiers lost their lives on the spot. At least 10 soldiers sustained injuries. In addition, 19 civilians were hurt in the blast. The total casualty count might rise as some victims remain critical.
The massive explosion triggered panic across the area. Security forces cordoned off the site within minutes. Emergency teams were rushed to help the victims. Hospitals in nearby towns reported a flood of patients. Eyewitnesses described scenes of destruction and confusion following the blast.
Local police sources revealed that the blast was so powerful it caused nearby buildings to collapse. Two houses in close proximity lost their rooftops. Six children were reported injured due to falling debris. Rescue teams worked to pull people out from the rubble. Authorities launched a door-to-door check for further casualties.
No terror group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. However, North Waziristan is often linked to Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Intelligence sources believe TTP may be behind the strike. Similar attacks have been attributed to them in the past. The region is notorious for such high-intensity ambushes on security forces.
After the attack, the area has been placed on high alert. Army checkpoints have been reinforced across Waziristan. Security officials have launched a search operation to trace any remaining attackers. Surveillance drones are being used to scan the region. Government sources said counterterror operations will intensify in coming days.
The attack reignites fears of cross-border terrorism from Afghanistan. Pakistan has repeatedly blamed Afghan soil for harboring militants. With Taliban control in Kabul, concerns have increased. Saturday’s bombing adds pressure on Islamabad to secure its borders. Diplomatic discussions with Kabul may follow in response to the incident.
