Dhaka: Big political change is happening in Bangladesh as BNP Chairman Tariq Rehman will take oath as the new Prime Minister of the country on Tuesday. The BNP has achieved a historic victory in the recently held general elections. With this victory, BNP is once again returning to power after almost 20 years.
60-year-old Tariq Rehman is going to become Prime Minister for the first time. He is the son of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. Khaleda ji died on 30 December, after which Tariq took charge of the party and returned to Bangladesh in December after 18 years in London.
On August 5, 2024, the students' movement overthrew Sheikh Hasina's government. After that the interim government of Mohammad Yunus lasted for about 18 months. Now after such a big victory for BNP, this government is coming to an end. Yunus has cleared the way.
The Oath Ceremony will take place at 4 pm on Tuesday at South Plaza of Parliament House, Dhaka. President Mohammad Shahabuddin will administer the oath to Tariq Rahman and his cabinet. Before that, the oath of new MPs will take place at 10 am. And there is also a parliamentary party meeting of BNP on the same day – there Tariq will be formally elected as the leader.
