London: On Saturday, a peaceful demonstration took place outside the Bangladesh High Commission in London, in which a large number of people from the Hindu community participated. The demonstration was against the increasing violence against Hindus in Bangladesh and especially the lynching of garment factory worker Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh on 18 December. The aim of the protesters was to demand justice and draw the world's attention to the safety of minority Hindus.
About 500 people, including members of the Hindu community of Indian and Bangladeshi origin, raised slogans such as "Hindus Lives Matter" and wrote on posters demanding justice. The event was organized by Bengali Hindu Adarsh Sangh (UK) and was kept peaceful. Many people said that the incidents against Hindus in Bangladesh do not get enough space in the international media, so they wanted to highlight this issue here.
During the peace protest, about 10 people came there carrying yellow Khalistani flags and raised slogans against the Hindu protesters. They started presenting their own politics in support of Bangladesh, which disrupted the already orderly peaceful gathering. Police separated the two groups to handle the situation. The incident also highlights differences in views and agendas between different migrant groups living in Britain.
Local police reached the spot and separated both parties. They placed barricades near the protesters and maintained a peaceful atmosphere. No major violence or arrests were reported, but authorities took a cautious approach to keeping the situation under control.
The protesters said that their aim was not to provoke anyone but to create awareness globally about the alleged atrocities against minority Hindus in Bangladesh. He also said that the judiciary and governments should pay serious attention to such cases so that the safety of communities can be ensured.
The basic reason for the protest was to express concern over the murder of Dipu Chandra Das and the alleged increasing attacks on the Hindu community in Bangladesh. The protesters raised their voice for justice, security, and the rights of minorities so that the attention of governments and the international community remained on this side.
